School of Arts & Sciences Class of 2012
In preparation to begin your undergraduate education, we ask that you join us on campus twice this spring, once for a series of required placement tests and once for an academic planning & advising program to meet with advisors and select courses for the fall semester.
The Rutgers Placement Tests determine the courses you are eligible to take in English, math and foreign languages. All incoming first year students at SAS are required to take placement testing, although students with a Verbal SAT score of 600+ (by the January 2008 test) are exempt from completing the English portion of the testing and will automatically be placed into Expository Writing.
Placement testing runs all day from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with a break for lunch. You MUST make a reservation to attend a testing day http://oirap.rutgers.edu/testplace.html. We recommend that you attend an early date because late April and May will likely be very busy with your senior year activities.
If you live over 200 miles from Rutgers, you can make arrangements to complete the testing by asking your guidance counselor to proctor the placement tests at your high school or you can arrange to take testing on campus if you anticipate visiting during the spring. To make such special arrangements, please contact April Pagano, Rutgers Placement Testing Coordinator, directly at 732/932-8445 or pagano@instlres.rutgers.edu.
If you completed the AP exam in English Lang/Comp, English Lit/Comp, or Calculus AB or BC with a score of 4 or 5 in your junior year, you do not have to complete the placement test in that subject, but must ensure that the AP scores are sent to Rutgers.
