NOTES:
- Rules regarding eligibility to participate in the above Commencement Convocations will be posted on this site when they are determined.
- School of Arts and Sciences students
Graduates who have formally converted to the degree requirements for the School of Arts and Sciences (from Douglass College, Livingston College, Rutgers College, or University College) will attend the ceremony of the college above with which they were last affiliated.
Graduates who transferred into Rutgers University as within the past two semesters as a School of Arts and Sciences student, or who completed a school-to-school transfer from a Rutgers University school other than Douglass College, Livingston College, Rutgers College, or University College, may choose the ceremony in which they would like to participate.
- The University-wide Commencement will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 1:30 pm on Voorhees Mall. This ceremony, presided by President McCormick, confers graduate degrees and represents students from all academic units in Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden. This is NOT the event in which undergraduates from Douglass, Livingston, Rutgers, and University Colleges participate. You are welcome to join the audience, but you do not dress in academic regalia or participate.
- This site will be updated with additional information about Commencement as it becomes available.
- Graduates from October 2007 and January 2008 are invited to participate in the May 2008 ceremony.
- Caps and gowns may be purchased in April.
- Non-academic obligations such as financial debt or immunization hold will result in a hold placed on your diploma and transcript, although you may participate in Commencement.
- Students are frequently contacted via home address during senior week. Please be sure the address on record is accurate. Changes can be made at the Registrar’s Office or online.
Class of 2009 and Beyond
We have not yet made a determination for 2009 and thereafter. There is currently a committee meeting that includes faculty, staff, and students addressing graduation ceremonies for 2009 grads. It has not been decided if there will be separate college ceremonies or one SAS ceremony or both. The committee will hear from constituencies and address the issue of resources and staffing required to maintain multiple graduation ceremonies.
Diplomas
College diplomas will say the college name and be signed by the current presiding dean (college deans for 2007, SAS dean for 2008 and beyond). SAS diplomas will say School of Arts and Sciences and be signed by the presiding SAS dean.
