As a transfer student, will I need to take placement tests at Rutgers?

Maybe! Follow the guidelines below:

English

Students who have not completed a college level writing course that is the equivalent to the Rutgers University Expository Writing course must take the English Writing Placement Test at Rutgers. Students who obtained a score of 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement English Test are exempt from this test.

Math

Students who have not taken a math course at their previous college or university or who do not receive credit for their math course from the Rutgers Math Department must take the Rutgers Math Placement Test.

Note that Statistics courses do not fulfill the basic skills math requirement.

Foreign Language

Rutgers University School of Arts and Sciences does not require a foreign language for graduation. However, some major departments, honor societies and graduate programs do require study in a foreign language.

If you:

  1. Took 2 or more years of a foreign language in high school AND
  2. Did not take that language at your previous school AND
  3. Plan to take that language at Rutgers;

you must take the appropriate foreign language placement test.

I’ve figured out that I do need a placement test. When are they being offered?

Please see the tesing dates here.
