Rutgers offers a wide array of services to assist you in overcoming academic obstacles. All services are free.

Tutoring

The Learning Centers offer walk-in and by-appointment tutoring to meet the academic needs of undergraduate students in many of the introductory level courses, as well as some of the upper-level courses.

Writing Program Tutoring

The Writing Centers provide tutoring for students enrolled in Writing Program classes. Students are tutored in the full range of expository writing, from basic composition to advanced research, business, and scientific writing courses. Students need to go in person to sign up.

Writing Coaching

Coaches at the Learning Centers meet individually with students about:

  • brainstorming topics
  • organizing ideas
  • formulating a thesis
  • structuring paragraphs
  • developing an argument

Note: The Learning Centers writing coaches do not provide tutoring for Writing Program courses (including Expository Writing and Basic Composition). These courses are supported by the Writing Centers.

Math & Science Support (MSLC)

Rutgers’ Learning Center at Busch offers MSLC, a resource for students in the sciences. It provides academic support, such as tutoring, study groups, a Biology Study Room with microscopes and models, and quiet places to study for students taking intro mathematics and physics courses.

Study Groups

Rutgers’ Learning Centers coordinate study groups for specific courses. The groups are led by a trained and supervised Study Group Leader whose role is to facilitate the study sessions by reviewing course material with students and integrating study skills.

Academic Coaches

Academic Coaching at the Learning Centers is a comprehensive service for students who want to improve their academic and self-management skills, such as time management, organization and study skills. Academic coaches will meet one-on-one to help you…
