If you have secured an internship opportunity, there are two ways in which you can earn academic credit for the internship. Students looking to earn credit for the internship must enroll in an appropriate internship course. Please make sure you have considered the best option for you, and please apply for the internship course by the deadline.
Two internship programs to explore:
- •An internship course offered by your major or minor department. Please connect with your academic departments directly. If your academic department(s) have an internship credit option, this is the best option for possibly fulfilling major/minor requirements.
- An internship course offered by Career Exploration & Success
Rutgers Internship and Co-op Course (RICC). The RICC course is a Pass/No Credit general elective course that will not fulfill SAS Core or major/minor requirements.
If you are seeking CPT, please follow this checklist:
- Ensure that your major is declared. Please note that SAS requires a declared major for CPT.
- Find an internship.
- Decide which internship course to apply for: Major/Minor (may offer major/minor credit) or RICC (offers elective 1, 3, 6 degree credits).
- Apply for the internship course by the deadline.
- If your internship course is approved, your academic department or the Career Explorations and Success office will provide you with a course number, index number, and special permission number.
- Once you are notified of approval and registration, please submit your CPT form. The advisor contact information is prepopulated, and you can leave the information as is.
- The CPT academic authorization takes 1-3 business days.
- CPT work authorization may take 5-7 business days.
*Please note that the Computer Science department does not offer internship courses.
